I have been researching monitors to buy for some new dual-G4 Macs I'll be purchasing tomorrow.

Anyway, these are the ones I have seen people recommend:

Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 900U
Mitsubishi Diamond Plus 91
LaCie Electron Blue II 19"
Sony CPD-G400
ViewSonic PF795
Hitachi SuperScan 771
Hitachi CM772

I have a budget of around $700 per monitor. I will be using them for a combination of quark/photoshop/illustrator work. The ability to read small type is also a necessity.

Any experience with these? Which hook up easily to the new G4s, and which require adapters?

Thanks for any response. The advice from this forum has been invaluable!

From past experience, I'd say to stay away from the Hitachi displays, unless your getting a really really great deal or something. Mitsubishi makes the best displays in my mind - and the LaCie versions are really great monitors. LaCie offers very good support, which is a big plus in my mind.

I don't have anything bad to say about Sony's monitors, they're all pretty nice. ViewSonic doesn’t impress me - large shadow mask displays just don't look all that great.

I purchased a LaCie 19" Blue II in the spring along with my G4/400, and I couldn't be happier (well, OK: the price dropped $150 a month after i bought it, but what the hey

They're going for CAN$850 these days, so price in US$ will be different.

They are *incredibly* nice monitors, USB connectors at rear *and* front which is great for keyboards or graphics tablets, and let's face it, look very good with Apple's graphite hardware. In OS X, I'm running at 1600x1200, and it's rock-solid and easy on the eyes. The hood helps with crappy lighting conditions.

Whoa! What's going on here? I bought a LaCie 19" Blue II last month and it has no USB ports on the front or the back. Should mine be called a Blue III ?
