Hey Everyone, Ichthus here;

A lot of people seem to be complaining about QUE's FireWire drives... Reliability, audio speed, etc etc. I have considered one of my many options, when I get my pismo, for CDRW. Why not use the ADS Pyro Drive Kit (found here: http://www.outpost.com/entry?sku=83381 ) with the new yamaha lightspeed IDE drive (found here[urlhttp://www.outpost.com/entry?sku=73135[/url])? Sure, it is $429.90USD for 16x10x40x compared to the Que's $399.95USD(12x10x32x), or the other fastest FireWire drives i saw at outpost.com (SonyiLINK12x8x32x379.95) (ProMar(Teac)12x10x32x399.95) But, you can rip audio faster, and burn faster. Getting it with the drive enclousure, if this particular CDRW outgrows your needs, pop it out of the drive enclosure, sell it on ebay, and slap in any other 5.25 device. Just a thought.

The ADS enclosure sounds like a great idea... I have posted all over the place regarding CDRW drives (I had a QPS QUE Fire that had all the problems 99% of Que Owners have).. I was able to exchange it for a Yamaha Firewire drive and I can honestly say that I don't think I've ever been as satisfied with a product as I am with this Yamaha.. (Honest, I don't work for them!).. I'm just very happy with this drive...

Check out http://www.yamaha.com/cgi-win/webcgi...0007CRW8824FXZ I've burned well over 50 cds now using Adaptec Jam (all "real" DAOs with no gaps, not a Toast "Disc-At-Once" where it still stutters)... As I've said in my other posts, I'm able to extract 74 minute audio cds in about 4-5 minutes.. It's just a great all around drive...

Trust me on this before you waste your money and frustrations on the QPS Drive... I cannot believe that MacAddict and MacWorld magazines have both rated the QPS so high.. I've witnessed first-hand and have heard nothing but horror stories....

I absolutely agree...
It is simple: Yamaha have been in the business the longest, and know what they're doing better than anyone else.
The Yamaha burners are second to none... way beyond the competition in every respect.

I have a ADS Pyro Firewire Drive Kit AND a Plextor 12x10x32 CDRW with burnproof.

I am 100 % satisfied.

ciao

Regarding the Yamaha drives, have you tried/verified whether Digital Audio Extraction works with the drive? I trade a lot of live concerts, and in addition to the DAO being required, trading electronic files requires perfect audio extraction. I know that the Plextor mechanisms used in the QPS drives works really well for this. And with Toast 4.1.2 the DAO audio problems with the Que! seem to be solved.

On the otherhand, I've heard really good things about the Yamaha. I just want to make sure that the Yamaha can do the extraction.

Anyone care to comment?

I just installed a Yamaha CRW8824SX (scsi internal) at work, burned a show (from Shortened files) and turn right around and did the test as posted on etree.

It passed w/o a problem and at full speed.

The only problem I am working out is that my stock CD-ROM in the beige G3 won't mount a burned audio disc. Yet any other CD-ROM will mount it, even my old Power 120! Hmm...

Still working with Yamaha with this one.
