This comes from RailHeadDesign, whose inside dish is usually pretty reliable:
My sources are still saying that the mouse is intended to come out with OS X Final, to compliment the built-in multi-button awareness. However, the exact timing is still unsure: some hear it will get released on March 24 while other hear it will see the light of day at the sixth-month point release update — along with all the other OS X goodies we’ll see then.
Interesting. If it were released with 1.0 on March 24, it would give SJ the chance to announce a "surprise" without unveiling any heretofore-unknown goodies in OS X itself (since there probably won't be any).

Wouldn't it be cool if EVERYONE who preordered Mac OS X got one for free? Since I preordered my copy, I think it would be .

I look down at my Pro Mouse, and I have to say that it looks a lot cooler as a one button thing than it would as a two-button.
Unless there would still be no buttons, and you'd just have to press more on the left or more on the right...

yeah, but how muchdo you want to bet apple would release it WITHOUT a scroll wheel? it would be just like them to do that, which curses me to use my intellimouse explorer.
free in osX's box would soo much kick ass

Something that works as good as the M$ Intellimouse Optical USB but looks like an Apple Pro Mouse would be great.
Already, the Apple Pro Mouse looks like it has buttons on the left and right side. I can't see why Apple could turn them into buttons and put a good, textured, scroll wheel up on top in the middle that also serves as a 4th button (in addition to plunking the whole mouse down like we do now) which would be good for the coming XFree86/Xwindows programs which use a 3 button mouse from the git-go.
I woudl but the new mouse just on the basis that it's an Apple product with apple styling. I'm sure most of us would gladly give our M$ mice away or use it on our work PeeCee's.
