Hi,

I'm looking for opinions/user opinions on Acer scanners, specifically the Acerscan 620/640. I want to get an inexpensive scanner for SOHO (web graphics, ocr, light printing work etc...). Real print work will be done via PhotoCD, so I don't need anything fancy.

I've read lots of opinions re the Agfa 1212, and it seems that people are not always big fans. However, there are Acers out there for the same price that might be a better deal.

If you own or have used an Acer, what are your thoughts, esp. wrt scan quality? I'm also a bit reticent to get into a smaller manufacturer when X is on the horizon (will drivers get written?). Anyone care to throw in their two cents?

Thanks!

I've got an Acer 320U. It's a great scanner for the price, just don't expect to do anything like pre-press with it.

For web work and scanning pics for email, it's fine.

I have a 320U scanner as well. I got it for $10 with a rebate so I thought I'd try it.

The only problem I noted was that it (the mirascan software which comes with the scanner) will crash if ColorSync is not loaded. If I remember correctly, the install loads ColoSync 2.X rather than 3.0. Since the extensions are named differently this will result in both extensions being active which may lead to additional problems.

The scanner software, e.g. plug-ins, work with PhotoShop, etc.

Last, don't expect a lot of support from Acer. (By the way their website is actually www.acerperipherals.com).
