Hello,

I've been salivating for the iPod. I've never had an MP3 player, but I have lots of MP3s on my machine at home.

I have tons of music on an external harddrive. What is the process for users who have more than 5GB of MP3s on their base computer?

I have 4615 songs (23.35GB) right now and am constantly buying more stuff (and I just learned in Macworld how to import all my vinyl).

So, is it easy to switch around the contents of the iPod with your base machine?

Thanks for any and all comments,
Phillip www.cpasn.com

I'm sorry, I can't actually answer your question but I'd be interested to learn how to import vinyl onto my iBook... Could you point me in the right direction?

You can either manually change the files on the iPod or have it sync selected playlists. So you could create a few playlists that are always on the ipod and they will always be on the ipod. I have 7 gigs of music and that's what I do.

Just as waffle pointed it out, switching songs on the Ipod is really simple. Just can drag and drop playlists you want to use onto your iPod manually. It is really easy...and copies are freakin' fast!

Good luck!

just because you have 4600 plus songs, doesn't mean that you have to carry them with you all the time. I have 750 songs in my ipod now, but i have yet to play every one of them.

Thanks to everyone for your answers. I like the playlist idea.

Mastrap: Visit www.macworld.com. The article I referenced was in the last issue -- not the "Replace Your Desktop" issue but the earlier one.

Hardcat1970: You underestimate what an audiophile I am. I'm always on the road and always listening to music. Whereever I go, music is always playing unless it's a movie or a restaurant or a face-to-face meeting.

hey, sorry about that. no offense.

But at the present time, you just have to live with the 1000 songs limit unless if you encode your mp3 at lower bit rate to fit more on the ipod.
