I'm thinking of getting an iPod brought over to Australia from Japan (seeing as there's no sign of them appearing here particularly soon, and they'll be cheaper in Japan anyway).
What I'm wondering is: how localized is the OS? Will I have any trouble using it with an English version of iTunes and OS X? Anyone have any experience of this?

The iPods are multilingual.

In other words they are the same thing for every country.

Are you sure about them being cheaper?

Here in New Zealand iPods are due to be released at a price of ~$700 NZ.
The current exchange rate is $1US = $2.38NZ, therefore a $399US iPod should about $970NZ, however a $700NZ iPod = $294US iPod.

And yes, I purposely made it hard to understand

My name's ...uh... it's a bummer man.

All the rumours are that iPods will be AU$849 or so. The Japanese list price is Y47800 (about US$385, or AU$750), so they could probably be found cheaper than that on the street. And Apple are being very sly about when there are actually going to be units shipping in Australia.
If they are really going to be NZ$700 that's certainly cheap - almost worth a trip over just to get one. But I'd be very surprised - NZ doesn't have a reputation for tech bargains.
