A few weeks before Macworld I was wondering when Apple will refresh its LCD line. New looks and new technology : 17,4" instead of 17"; 15 msecond response time instead of 40; etc.

What do you think ? I want to buy a 17" flat panel but I think I will wait until Macworld ...

I've heard from some sites (I believe it was RailHeaddesign) that in the first quarter of 2002, or maybe even earlier that Apple will refresh the LCD lineup. I think it said something along the lines of phasing out the 15inch LCD, and going with a 17, 19, and Cinema Display.. The 17inch being the same price as the 15 inch is now.

If this is the case.. I'll definately be getting the 17inch LCD, and I might even save up a while longer and get the 19 That would be ssoooo sweet.

Again, this is just a rumour that I hear from railhead.

Seems like an affordable 19" LCD from Apple would cut into Cinema sales unless they enlarge the Cinema display at the same time. It wouldn't surprise me if they discontinue the 15" but I would NOT expect the 17" to be as low as $599 by January. Just guessing. I'd wait too, if I were in the market.

I would love it if Apple made all the studio displays widescreen. I own a Powerbook G4 and I can't see myself going back to the normal aspect ratio (is it 4:3?). You would be surprised how much an inch of LCD screen does to your computing experience.

Wide screens are kinda nice but it depends on what you do with your computer. For web surfing, taller is better. The 17" Studio's tall 4x5 (1024x1280) ratio is nice for surfing. You can read more of the page before you have to scroll down.
