I was wondering, I'm not a programmer, but with something like BBedit light is it possible to make an old driver work with OS X?

I have an Epson Photo Stylus 1200 printer it will print in any OS 9 version just not X. This is a great 6 color printer. The Color and Photo reproduction are amazing. But I can't get it to print in OS X. The OS will see it on the USB line but it will have a"?" next to it and it says "unsupported printer." Now Epson only has print drivers in X for the 1270 and 1280 (next generation). I was wondering if you could hack the driver for the 1270 and rename it 1200. Will this get to it to work.

Again I'm not a programmer but I was reading an article in MacAddict that was talking about BBedit, is this something you can do in the light version of BB? Is it even possible to do? I've never used BBedit when I see the program(Driver) in BBedit will it be something as simple as changing anything that says 1270 to 1200? Or will I be looking at all binary code?

Well appreciate any help/advice. I really don't want to keep switching back to OS 9 to print or spend another 500 bucks on the newer printers. The one I have is hardly used and in perfect condition.

Thanks in advance.

Would seem to have exactly what you are looking for, instructions on hacking your Epson drivers. There is even a report of some success with the 1200, the model you own. You can also search over at macslash.com for some threads about this.

worked for me.

although it ONLY works at 1440 DPI.

that's a lot of ink and time per print.

it shows that epson CAN do it, but they won't commit. shiznatches.
