Hi,

I am considering the puchase of the QPS 24x10x40 CD-RW [Firewire]. I will be using it with a PB G3 320 RAM [Firewire] and a Ti 667. On my Pismo I will be using Mac OS 9.0.4. Does anyone see any difficulties with this?

I am also curious about using Toast 5.0 and Retrospect v.?. Do I need this software to backup my 6GB HD, creating audio CD's, and multimedia files? I don't know what software comes with the QPS and some have suggested to me that Toast Titanium [5.0] would make this easier.

Is this CD-RW compatible with both these PB's in order to do what I want to do? Do I need additional software? If so, what software?

Comments and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Philip.

You should be able to use Disc Burner (I believe only for 9.1 and higher) for burning basic data CD's and then iTunes 2.x for your music CD's. OS 9.1 is either recommended or required for iTunes 2.x. I suspect it's required.

So if you don't want to go that route, the QPS should include a version of Toast (but not Toast Titanium), which will allow you to burn CD's as well. I haven't used Toast since the OEM verision was at 4.0, so I can't tell you much about how it is today. No doubt it's improved.

The QPS drive should come with Toast, but it is probably version 4.x, and they ship a "lite" version with burners. If you want to do serious music burning, get Toast Titanium 5, and check Roxio's site for current updates. iTunes and Disc Burner don't let you do multiple sessions, so if you burn a file or song on a disc, it's permanently locked. With Toast, you can add files later, by doing "multiple sessions." The full version of Toast also includes Spin Doctor, which you can use to burn albums and cassettes and take the hiss and pop out, which gets picked up when converting from analog to digital.

I've got the Toast 5 (Titanium). It's the only way to burn. Nothing comes close for the Mac platform.

For basic burning, use Apple Disk Burner. If that is too basic, get Toast 5 Titanium.
