I've got a hitach (au) w32h phone (I'm in Japan) which is pretty neat little phone with a camera, web browsing, GPS, mp3 player and more

Problem is I want to move stuff (mp3s ) on and off the mini SD i got for it. However, it only comes with windows software -- and instructiions in pretty heavy Japanese -( the english manual only lists the basic features)

I have managed to get photos and video off the camera by putting the miniSD into my Ricoh camer and using the Ricoh mounting software (Caplio mounter 3.0) BUT I cannot WRITE to the mini SD card.

Is there like generic mounting software I can use to mount the phone - or something? What else could I do?

Now I know I can go out and buy an SD card reader, but I don't want to. I'm pissed off there is no mac software for the phone and I'm going to try and tenaciously find a workaround or die trying

but am I ??

all help much appreciated and sorry about all the smileys - dont know what I was thinking

Well, since it's running a proprietary OS, you're limited to what the manufacturer lets you do. A few options may include:

1. Does it have a miniUSB socket - if so, it might mount on your desktop under USB mass storage.

2. Connect via bluetooth, and select "Browse BT device" from the BT menu.

3. Otherwise, a card reader is the best way to go.

thanks imacfan

the phone does not have bluetooth but does have a cable that connects to a USB port - its this usb connection to the phones miniSD that the windows software drives I believe.

The USB mass storage thing is what I want to do I think. Shouldn't it mount automatically when the phone is plugged in? I don't need any additional drivers do I?

Once thing that happens whe I plug it in tho is that it shows up as a new network port in system preferences.

well I got some where.........

I managed to mount the phone - 'mass storage' was the clue - it comes up with that as an option on the phone when you usb connect it to the 'puta.

I can copy mp3 or what i think is proper format = sd-audio AAC files with m4a extensions

onto the sd card, but I don't know where... actually I tried everywhere but there's no way to load into the phones music player and they don't play when you click them in the browser... they could be in the wrong format, but I think the windows software must creates a unique directory which the music player needs in order to work.

So no 'Acidman by Jolly Roger' on the subway to work tomorrow. On the other hand at least I know I would've wasted money on an sd card reader.

One idea: I guess that the phone has a voice recorder. This might deposit a file in the 'media/whatever' folder (or even create one). Try recording a memo, then remounting the phone, and see where it is. You may have to direct it to store on the flash card.
