I just got a portable and I NEED a good pair of earphones. I am in a college dorm so they dont have to be all that small or anything. Just something confortable, with good sound (good enough for FPS gaming) and preferebly not the kind that go inside your ear (what are they called? button?)

Hi,

I would strongly recommend the new earphones from Bang & Olufsen (www.bang-olufsen.com). I know that the company is Uber-Expensive, but they will only set you back about $100, and they are very good quality, very comfortable, and do not go into your ear (they sit just outside). You get what you pay for. I'm also a university student, and a B&O product will give you instant kudos.

I would suggest the Bose noise-cancelling headphones. They are $300, but in a college dorm they would be perfect - they would eliminate extraneous noise. They are also very light and provide stellar sound quality.
