So i bought a nomad IIc (mp3 player) back in july of this year. It dies the day i get it, and creative support tells me to send it back to amazon. A week later, a new one arrives. This one lasts for around 5 months. (IT died a few days ago) From the day i got that second machine it had some serious problems. The firmware that the unit shipped with, as with most portable devices had some serious problems. So, i immediately download an update. This update caused the firmware to become corrupted. The machine is still usable for some reason, but often takes a good 60 seconds to turn on. So 5 months later,i decide to try and download another firmware upgrade, to see if that will make it work. So i try and do it again, and it the installer fails once again. I try going into something they call "backup mode", which allows you to update the machine even if the primary firmware is corrupted, by running a really simple backup code. I do this, and the LCD on the player reads "Rescue Mode Failed!". The unit never worked after this. So, i venture to call up technical support. After nearly an hour of waiting on the line, i finally get to talk with technical support. I tell the guy whats going on, and he asks put me on hold. About 10 minutes later, he returns. He then instructs me to "flash the firmware", something which i specifically told him i had done already. I start to get angry at him, and let him know it. All fo a sudden, he says "youre not on mac are you". I reply yes. He says, "theres a tecnical note here that the firmware installer will always fail if it is done on a mac". And i reply, what the F*** is the firmware doing on your website. He says he doesnt know, that its not his department. Then i ask him about getting it repaired. He tells me i can send the thing in with $20, for them to have a look at it, and then extra for them to fix whatever is wrong with it. I told him that was ridiculous, and that it was their software that screwed it. He tells me they are not obligated to do anything, as the warranty on the unit has expired. Then he asks me again weather i want to send it. I tell him this is ridiculous, and that im not going to pay for something that is completely their fault. He simply wont budge. I finally tell him forget it and hang up. I cant believe this. A warning to everyone, do not buy anyting from creative, especially not this player, as it does not truly support the mac. There is no way to flash it if you ever need to on a mac. Their ingorance is unacceptable. - That a note on their technical documents does not get to their website. That their OWN software causes the units THEY manufacture to fail. They havent even updated the firmware for it in a good 4 months now, so i doubt there is ever going to be a fix. Consumer beware, Creative is bad news. </rant>

WOW! thanks for the warning. sorry about what happened though.
i had the same problem with maxgate a subdivision of ugate. after trying to get a hold of tech support for days on the phone and email i finally get an email response offering me an upgrade for more money when the unit i had still had two and a half years left under warranty. I sent my original unit back to get fixed two months ago and havent heard from them since.stay away from ugate products also, i think they went out of business anyway.
