I installed a 40 MB Maxtor 7,200 RPM drive in both a G3 (the first production cycle from January 1999) and G4 (the Tokyo introduction). After formatting it with DriveSetup 1.8.3 (comes with System 9.0), I see only 32 GB.

Does anyone know if there is a way to get the system to recognize the entire 39.xx GB? By the way, both drives are placed in the slave position, not master.

The current version of Drive Setup is 1.9.2 which is included with the OS 9.0.4 update or you could probably download it separately from Apple Software Updates. Try dl'ing it and update the driver on the 40 gig drive.

One reminder - use the drive jumper info on the Plus40 drive label, not the instruction sheet which may have an error. Several readers followed the printed settings and reported only 31GB formatted drive sizes. The drive ships set to Master or Single Drive setting. If you're installing it as a slave, just remove the single jumper on the drive.
