Hey there,

I just got a new G4/400 system (I upated from a PowerCenter 150).

It works wonderfully, but I am now experiencing difficulties that most people probably went through a year or two ago - finding USB adapters for my old peripherals.

I have handled pretty much everything else, but a, running into trouble finding a USB/Serial adapter that will support my printer.

I have a Laserwriter 4/600 PS Printer. Has anyone been able to find an adpter that will supprt this printer?

I would suggest the Stealth Serial Port from GeeThree. AFAIK, none of the external USB to Serial adapters work with that printer, due to timing issues.. unfortunately, the stealth serial goes in place of any internal modem you may have.. but still probably cheaper to get an external than to buy a new laser

The best way to make that printer work on the new Mac is: Using a printer adapter for connecting it to Ethernet (Assante and Farallon shuld have one for around $100.00), a 4 port hub (Mac Sense has one of 5 ports for around $30.00) and a couple of 10BT cables. Then send to print trough the ethernet port in the Mac.

You can use the Asantetalk Etherne to Localtalk bridge for iMac. It contains a crossover cable and a straight thru cable for either a direct connection or a network connection. It also includes a printer cable to connect the printer to the bridge. You can also use phonenet connectors from the bridge to create a localtalk network of up to ten legacy devices (computers, printers, etc). The Asantetalk Bridge sells for $184 cdn
Cheers
