hi

I have a 120GB Lacie firewire hard drive

It crashed on me a while ago - and ever since I have been unable to mount it

I have used disk utility to try to erase and partition it

but

everytime it gets to a cetain point and just hangs and hangs

anybody know any solutions?

Are you using "crash" literally or figuratively? A real disk head crash is catastrophic, irreparable physical damage to the disk.

A "crash" that is just corruption should be remedied by a utility, or at most reformatting.

If reformatting fails, as you say, then either the drive mechanism or the FireWire interface is failing.

Quit trying to point out [nonexistent] faults in my posts. If you'd ready my post carefully, you'd see that I never claimed that the OP hadn't tried that. I was simply explaining for the benefit of all readers what troubleshooting steps are beneficial for each scenario, and what the results of the failure of that step likely means.
