I have just bought a Que Fire CDRW (4/4/24), but my G4/400 AGP doesn't seem to recognize it. I have Mac OS 9.0.4, the latest firmware update (2.4), and the latest Firewire extensions (2.33). After copying the Que! Fire extension to the extensions folder and installing Toast and restarting, the drive doesn't appear in the Apple Profile and is not recognized by Toast. The other odd thing is that even with the drive on, the eject button doesn't open the tray.

I have looked in the QPS webpage but there is no update for the driver.

Any help is appreciated.

I just bought the same drive, and am having the exact same problem with my iMac DV. I did discover that if I turned the drive off and back on again quickly, it would power up properly and I could insert discs. (Doesn't seem right, does it?) However I still can't get it to mount or get Toast to recognize it no matter what I do. I have played with different extension sets to no avail.

If you discover anything, I'd appreciate hearing about it. I was wondering if maybe I had a bad firewire cable, but then again the drive might be damaged if you have to turn it on twice to get it started.

Does anyone else's Que! Fire behave in this way?

Someone on Apple's iMac trouble-shooting forum just solved the problem. Disable the Que! Fire extension. As soon as I disabled it and restarted, the drive worked fine. (I still have to switch it on twice, though.)
