Hello World!

Just before 10.0 came out I bought and external 20 GB LaCie FireWire Hard Drive. This turned out to be a terrible mistake.

It works fine in OS 9, but in 10.0.0 -> 10.1 I get an error message when it tries to mount. I get the option to run Disc Util. which diagnoses "Keys Out Of Order." Disc Util. claims it can repair this, but when I ask it to, it goes through the motions, claims to have repaired the drive - but hasn't . If I run Disc Util again it says exactly the same thing.

Under OS 9 it works fine, but under 10 no go. This is *VERY* disappointing as it is connected to my server and I don't even use 9 any more. 20 GB and £150 down the pan.

So Has anyone else had this? Any clues as to how to "mend" it?

Thanks, Digs

I have the same drive hooked up to my iMacDV+ and it runs well under 9.x.x as well as 10.0.x and 10.1. I don't know what that error you get means, but why don't you try to do a low-level format (the one which zeros the whole disk) in Disk Utility. Make sure also that the driver on the disk is up to date (Disk Utility should be able to do that). And then, do you have up to date firmware on your Mac? Apple updated stuff in there having to do with FireWire.

If all this doesn't work, it could be the disk itself of course. Hook up another IDE disk in the external case and see if you get the same errors.

As I said, I have the same drive and it really rocks under OS X. Hope you get it to work too.

Hooray!

I managed to fix it with Norton Disc Doctor. There appeared to be loads of weird errors, but Norton seemed to whack them all back into shape.
