I have an older apple studio display. Its either a G3 or a old G4 monitor (no USB ports, power button lights up green and orange) and it works perfectly with my powerbook except that randomly (about every hour or two) it will make a sound like it was just turned on and then go dim, warp a bit and then go back to normal. I have the power hooked up to a Powermac G4 that is off (the computer doesnt ever shut off or anything so I dont think its the power supply). Has anyone else had this problem? If not ill just look around for an extension cord and plug the monitor into that and then into a socket (its the connector where the plastic case covers the metal prongs). Thanks

Is it an AppleVision or Colorsync monitor (beige)? These were notorious for problems like these as the quality control was rubbish; the problems were usually with the deflection board.

If it's a later Studio Display with translucent plastics, I suppose the same would apply.

So what's happening with yours is an early sign of failiure - it could continue working as it is, or gradually get worse and die. You'll have to live with it. It's definitely not a cabling/power issue.

It's a known issue that most people experienced 4 or 5 years ago with those displays. I had one that did that. It means it's going to die soon. Better start looking for a replacement.
