This is a tad off-topic but I've been reading about people using FM transmittersto listen to their iPods in their cars.

Now, I like to listen to internet radio stations. I also happen to collect old valve radios and I was thinking that it might be a cool thing to plug a FM transmitter into my iBook and tune one of my radios to that station, giving me the ability to listen to net radio in the kitchen, garden etc etc. I have done this successfully with an AM transmitter for *really* old radios but would appreciate the superior sound quality of FM.

Has anyone got any experience with these things? Any recommendations? What is their maximum range?

All advice much appreciated.

I am having good results with the SoundFeeder SF 21 in a car. The range is almost nonexistent, but I just stuck a velcro sticky square next to the radio to stick the SF 21 there and use a longer miniplug cord to connect the iPod. I use the lowest clear frequency (88.7 in my area) and get great sound for riding in the car.

The range is measured in inches though, so I don't think it would be useful for using with assorted radios around the house.
