I have the following problem on a clients Mac:
She uses Cubase 5 VST score and makes a midi connection via a usb/midi box called "Midisport" / "midiman". The midi connection doesn't work when the computer has been on deep sleep - I have tried to remove and reconnect the usb plug, but it won't connect until a restart.
Any ideas on how to solve it?
It's a 466 G4, DK-9.2.1, 256 mb ram
TIA,
Peter

This is actually quite a well known problem. And it happens with a lot of different USB Midi Interfaces, Not just the MidiSport ones. And it also happens regardless of the Music software thats being used. Unfortunately, There is nothing you can do about it, other than what you have been doing already. IE, Restarting the Mac. It's something to do with the Midi Interface never being able to wake up properly after a nap. Only a re-start will wake it. This is exact same thing used to happen to me too. But for the record, I have since bought a larger USB Midi interface from MOTU, and this works fine after the computer has been napping.
(Grrr, Lost my freakin PassWord!)

I'm not too happy with your answer, iPaul
Just for the record, do you know if logging out and in could solve it? Otherwise, nice to know that the MOTU works - could you give me a model name, or is there only one?
Thanks!
Peter

Peter, yes I realize my answer isn't perhaps quite what you wanted to hear.. But what did you mean by logging in and out? Either way, When I had this problem, nothing would wake it properly other than a Re-boot of the Mac. But interestingly, I'm almost certain this didn't happen under OS 8.6, Only 9 upwards.. Anyway, annoying though the problem is, I kind of got used to it, and it didn't really bother me after a while.
As for the MOTU stuff.. They make a whole range of USB Midi Interfaces. The one I have is a fairly substantial 96 channel device (Curiously called the "Micro" Express!).
Go to www.motu.com for more info. MOTU is probably one of the best Macintosh commited Audio software and Hardware manufacturers right now. Well worth a look..

With logging out/in, I just mean to set up the users account so you have to log in every time, but also gives you the ability to log out and log in again, which sometimes can do tricks as it loads the desktop etc.
I'll try to persuade her to look into Motu next time.
Thanks for your help, iPaul!
Sincerely,
Peter
