I don't know if this is in the right place or not but I'll give it a shot... do any of you give me a link or tell me where I can get something to convert tapes into CDs or MP3s? Thanks.

While I've never done this, I think the easiest way would be to use a program like SoundEdit to record whatever it is into AIFF format, which can be burned or converted easily. Just get a cable to connect the sound out on the tape player to the sound in (microphone) jack on the computer.

I recorded some Italian cassetts for class onto MP3. I recorded them into my roommate's iMac (stupid Ti with no Mic input) using some simple shareware I found on www.tucows.com with a simple 1/8(mini)-to-1/8 wire from radio shack (headphone on stereo to mic input) and saved the files as AIFF. Cleaned 'em up in Quicktime, Then just used iTunes to convert the files to MP3, and that's that.

I used TOAST. I had to convert school math skill tapes to cd. During break one of the 2nd grade teachers complained of using the tape recorder to search for a skill as the students became quite anxious. I told her give me the tape as I have CD Spin Doctor that came with Toast. I used a standard tape player and pathched the output to the input of G4 Sawtooth. In CD Doctor I set the levels and recorded the whole tape to the hard drive. All I had to do was mark the tracks and it started Toast and burned an audio cd. Quite simple and easy.

Yeah, this is easy. I just plugged the line out on my tape deck into my Mac's sound in jack (1/8th inch stereo plug), and used Coaster to record to my hard drive. Then I used SoundJam to make the MP3 and Toast to burn the CD. Simple. Sounds great.

I guess Spin Doctor (or similar) would be good for breaking the stuff into tracks, but mine was continuus so I didn't care.

hmm i had this one song on an old tape of mine i wanted to convert into an mp3, so i looked around, and what i did was i bought a $500 ForMac digitiser, and encoded the song into a videoless DV stream, then i bought Media Cleaner Pro for like $600 and converted that DV stream into MP3. And just like that BAM I got my MP3 of the song I wanted.

Ha Ha I'm young, my first "album" was a CD, not a cassette. It would work though.
