My monitor seems to be dying on me, and I think that I want to go LCD, however, it is a big difference going from a 21" to a 17" LCD. Does anyone have any idea when the next set of Apple LCDs will come out? I remember seeing somewhere that theyw ould be 18, 20, and 24? Anyone have any info on this?
Also, if I buy the 17"LCD now, how long will it last me before the newer ones come out...if it's going to be a while, I might just do it, and then sell it when the time comes..?
Also, has anyone else made the switch from a 21" CRT to a Apple 17" LCD? If so, what are you opinions/complaints?
Also, does anyone have any other recommendations? Thanks.

So what's wrong with a 22" LCD then?

I agree that Apple should revisit their LCD monitor line-up. Prices are dropping on both LCDs and CRTs, so 17" is becoming the average size.
My fantasy is that MWSF brings us the following line-up:
17" - $799
20" - $1,199
22" Widescreen - $1799
The pricing is a little weird, but hey...it's just a fantasy.

I'm just too used to a 21" CRT...and therefore a 17" is too small...and I think that the 22" that apple offers now is overpriced, and I just think that a 20" would be perfect for me, since that's about the viewable size of a 21" CRT.

Gimmie a break. The 17 LCD has no black border like CRT's so they are actually 17". They also have 1280 x 1024 rez.
That leaves 2 inches between that and your CRT. No way in hell is Apple going to come out with another monitor for the few people who want that and not the 22".

Apple just stated that margins are historically high due in part to lower costs of flap panel supplies. Can a significant price cut be far behind?

i think i would like a 20".
i cant fork out enough dough for the 22, but i will get a 17 but would like to pay a lil more for the 20 incher.
the 17 incher is freakin' absolutin' beautiful. 3 inches more would make the damn thing irresistable and cause me to hate every screen i look at until i had it.
i mean either that or lower the damn price for the 22 again. make it 1, 700 and maybe people besides alex rodriguez and don johnson can buy it
freakin' don johnson. i hate that guy

No one ever has any idea on when any new Apple product is coming out. There are always lots of rumors flying around, but most of them are wrong, so if you're going to go LCD, just do it. I assume you know that the current Apple LCDs have the ADC connector and will only work with G4s with ADC connectors, or with a Dr. Bott (www.drbott.com) ADC-DVI connector, for older G4s with the DVI connector. The ADC connector is digital, so you just can't use it ony any Mac. except relatively current machines.

I've been very impressed with apple's pricing for the TFT display, true they are well out of my price range, but when you compare them to equivelant quality monitors from Mitsubishi, Sony and others the Apples are either in the same range or cheaper, certinaly a far cry from the days of the Apple CRT which was far mor expensive than other parties of the same quality.
if you are looking for a cheaper TFT Mitsubishi has a nice clear 15'' which retails for about $900 Australian, probably something like $400 US.
