Hi guys,
this question is really only applicable to aussie's and those with a detailed knowledge of the australian apple market.
Where can you buy ram online now? The australian apple store does not sell ram via its website other than packaged with new macs.
This is crazy. Ive been to the US store and it does, why doesnt the australian one?
Im wanting to buy a new imac and some extra ram for my ibook in the next few weeks, and I cant find a store that sells both.
Ive been to:
www.apple.com.au - dont sell the ram separately www.powermedia.com.au - dont sell 256mb DIMMS low profile www.epowermac.com.au - dont have the latest model imac www.nextbyte.com.com - dont even have an online store
And Im not having much luck. Also, I am eligible for education discount but its almost impossible to get education prices in australia outside of the apple.com.au website.
At this stage Im looking at the epowermac.com.au website. It has the previous model imac (600mhz graphite) for around $2700 AUS and sells the 256mb DIMMs for the ibook at around $110 AUS which is a good price.
If they had the 700mhz model the would have my sale for sure.
What are other people's thoughts about the Australian retail situation? Its not really good at the moment, since the demise of buzzle, which was the only major conglomerate chain of apple stores with an e-commerce website.
Nextbyte is big, but they dont have any e-commerce!
Any recommendations, ideas or solutions would great.
PS - ignorant comments from Americans regarding third world countries are neither appropriate nor welcome here. I have seen them before many times in these forums so Id just like to say this in advance.
Australia is one of the leading OECD countries in terms of economy, and well ahead of the USA per capita at the moment. We have a population of 20 million; surely we deserve a decent apple e-commerce facility!

Im surprised that after 2 days this has received no comments or responses.
Maybe the peripherals forum isnt the right place for this thread, even though its about memory, as it doesnt get enough traffic>?
Mods, can I have permission to place this in the imac thread?

Jiveboy- I have found Palaeo Graphics to be an excellent source for RAM as it's damn cheap and is delivered really quickly. I brought 256 mb for A$110 (now only A$85) for my G4 and it was delivered within 20 hours for free. There site is always up to date and their response times are good
regards
Smev
