Bluetooth range on Mactel mini w/ Skype?

Hi, trying to use a Jabra BT500 headset with Skype via my mini's bluetooth connection.

When on a call, everything works, but if I get more than 2-3 feet from my mini the call quality quickly degrades with static. Is this normal for BT with Skype on a Mac mini? A Mactel mini? Skype?

Fwiw, range with my mobile phone and the headset is much better - 20ft max.
