I currently have NEC SuperScript 870 which works great in my current mixed Mac/Win environment, however, NEC hasn't published or given any indicated that they will publish OS X drivers for the printer. So, I am looking into getting a new Networked Laser Printer to support a small business office with 2-Mac (OS X, 9.1) and 4 Wintel (2 - Win98, and 1 Win2000, and 1 WinNt).

Currently it's between the Brother 1670N and the HP LaserJet 2200dse. I know the HP has OS X drivers, but I can't seem to find OS X drivers for the Brother other than an updated USB driver, I am wondering if anyone knows whether the Brother 1670N works in a networked environment on OS X? Also, if anyone has a better suggestion for a Laser Printer to support a mix computing environment, that's under $1000?

Thanks,
DLDesigns

Check out GCC Printers. They took over making Apple's Laserwriter models, and their two main printer lines have OS X drivers now. I have an Elite XL20 printer (a little out of your price range) and am happy with it.

Good luck.

I have a brother 1270N which is under 1000$, supporting Apple and Win workstations.
It appears in appletalk and windows network zones in my house, and works fine with the native postscript driver under X. You can print to it either by appletalk, or by unix lpd connection. On the win side, it supports IPP and NetBios connections. IPP requires a RAM upgrade - I stuck 32 Meg in there.

Hope that helps,
Ben.
