Got a 16x DVR-109 from new egg last July. Has been consistently burning Verbatim
16X dvds at 16x flawlessly, no coasters. Last night, it decides to crap out. For some strange
reason, it will not burn faster than 8x. i flashed the firmware to 1.58 (I burn with Toast 6.x)
and it still will notburn faster than 8x. I can hear the DVD in there spinning like mad, and it is LOUD. After a few moments, toast reports a write error. the finder will notburn faster than
8x either. Any clues as to why this happened? These drives are cheap enough it is not worth
pulling out and sending in for repair.
