My mother-in-law just phoned me to say that the LaserWriter that I sold to her a few years back is printing a black line vertically down the page just off center. I don't have the manual for this piece of equipment since I also bought it used. I'm hoping that a little cleaning at the local service store will clean it right up. Does anyone know if that's all that's required or if it's the kiss of death for the old thing?

Thanks in advance.

We used to have the same problem with an old LaserWriter in our office. Either cleaning it, or taking out the cartride and rocking it side to side, fixed the problem. I doubt it's anything more serious than that.

You can buy laser printer cleaning pages at any Staples or the like. They are just sheets of 8.5x11 paper that you print a blank page on. While going through the printer it somehow cleans the interior. Don't ask me how, but I've had some luck with them. If the problem is real bad, you may have to repeat several times on more than one sheet. If you have trouble printing a blank page, type any letter(s) and change the text color to white.
