My old MAC G4 monitor finally seemed to have kicked the bucket..I hope it was just the monitor..but most likely it was. It was for the past couple months blinking...like it was getting bigger and smaller..kind of like someone was turning it off and on really fast....well..the green light would be on today and it had nothing showing on screen and heard like cracking and sparking inside it...guess its no good huh?? LOL
Anyways..I could really use some help in finding a compatible moniter for this..I was just going to go out and buy a cheap wide screen LCD from like Costco or Best Buy that is Mac Compatible...but then I read that not all the new moniters work with the old G4? Mine I believe was the SVGA Studio 17in Monitor......PLEASE help me find one that is going to work with it........can you get an adapter if needed...what kind..I have no clue on this....any help is much appreciated.
Mike

I had a G4 style 17" Studio Display that I had to replace about six months ago. Most any monitor you can find will be compatible with your G4. You should have a VGA connector (or an adapter if you have ADC), so any VGA monitor will be fine.

Damned, what a sad way to die
How old was it ?
My studio display will be 7 in June, & is as bright & clear today as it was the day it was born

bluemacaw2, just about any computer monitor will work. Pick up whatever you like at Costco or Best Buy. It'll work.

ok so pretty much anything will work then with it....so now........which one should I get...I don't need the top of the line monitor nor do I want the cheapiest piece of garbage out there...I'd prefer a decent wide screen one........that is pretty decent for like graphics/video. Any suggestions or recommendation as far as name brand/models anyone????
This is what I used to use till it blew up!!

Mine died in exactly the same way a few years ago. You can pick up any LCD you want. If it has a DVI cable then make sure that your graphics card has DVI out (but it probably has this).

AFAIK there was an ADC-DVI adapter included with old PowerMacs. He should be able to use any DVI display on sale with that.

When my $600 Apple CRT blew (after 4 years) I replaced it with a new 3rd party one of the same size for under $100.

ok so how do I know which end is what now.....whatever is pictured in the image I posted it what my monitor was.....I just want to make sure whatever I get works ok..I'm not going to the Apple store and paying no 600 bucks or more on a monitor...I just saw a decent one at Sam's club today.....its a Samsung 19"LCD w/DVI....not a widescreen but price was 299 thought that was decent...gotta shop around though....even if I save 50 bucks I'll be happy..........

Really? I seem to remember that a friend of mine used his 15" LCD Apple Studio Display (with DVI input) with his G4 … hmmm.

hmmm all this talk about adapters..etc....is confusing as hell now..........what kind of end is on the one that I used to have? I know I don't have any extra adapters when I originally got my computer...that was like 7 years ago now...I just want to make sure I don't buy something that isn't going to work with it.

I had a Sceptre laptop. It sucked. The screens are reasonable though.
Anyways, I bought an ADC->DVI adapter ($30) for my Cube, and I'm using it with a Samsung 19" 191T (1280x1024). Works fine also with the ADC->VGA adapter too but I find my GeForce2 MX in this machine has only so-so VGA quality. Above average, but sometimes not as good as DVI for obvious reasons.
P.S. Dell 2005FPW screens have been on sale recently too. They have the added benefit of having S-video and component inputs as well as a built-in memory card reader and USB ports.

Cool so in other words the Sceptre is not really worth getting....prices are pretty cheap yeah I saw that....figured there was a catch......I guess its like getting something at Walmart...LOL........Just not the best......
Yeah I was reading about that Dell 2005FPW screen......looks like I might look into that.....
are they really the equivalent to what Apple offers????
Again looking for any suggestions for a decent monitro at a decent price...thanks all!!!

I HAD A 17-INCH studio display (apple) that I got in 2000. In November I replaced it (and it even still worked; just getting too small) with a 2005 FPW Dell. I love it, despite its "dellness." The extra space is fabulous, and it was just too much cheaper than an Apple for me to dismiss getting it. Look for the stupid coupons and sales and you'll do OK. The Dells were on sale last week. I am not sure about now.

A client of mine bought that Sceptre display. It seems just fine, actually. The only thing they don't like is that it has a HUGE Sceptre logo on it that blinks red brightly when it's in sleep mode (the Dells, for example, just turn orange instead).

The Dell 20" widescreen doesn't have the memory card reader, but the 24" model does.
