Hey guys, haven't posted in a long time, but if anyone has ideas about this, someone here will.

My ipod mini died today. I'm not sorry- it went through a lot, had it a year and a half, and even though it sucks that it's broken, I think I got my money's worth out of it several times over.

It occurred to me today that the Hitach microdrives in the minis can be (iirc) used in digital cameras with CF type 2 slots, which I happen to have.

I took the tiny screwdrivers to my ipod, got the drive out without any problem, and though it took a long time, was able to format it into MS-DOS with Disk utility.

Problem is, I put it into my camera and the thing doesn't boot. The CF read light goes on, and the camera hangs up at the boot screen. From the looks of it, the camera is getting hung up early on- it doesn't make it to the menu and if I try to power it off, nothing happens. I have to pull the battery to get the card out.

Ideas? The disk verifies and repairs okay under disk utility, says no repairs were necessary. The camera is a Canon 300D, one of the original Digital rebels, not the XT.

Right now I'm zeroing the drive with the idea that this may wipe out the boot sector on it as well, and fix the hangup.

Any other ideas?

If there is a PC around, you could try either FAT32 or NTFS formatting on the HDD. If that doesn't work, I'd try FAT16. Otherwise, I'd say it won't work.
