Hi!
I´m in the market for a digital camera. I was about to buy the DC280 from Kodak but it received a rather harsh review from Macworld (2 1/2 mices is lame). Does the DC290 has the same shortcomings as the DC280? Any experiences with similarly priced cameras?
Thanks!!

I have used DC265 for a while now and I am very impressed. DC290 probably has better resolution and more memory on the card.

I have also read a review on cameras in one of the photography magazines. At the time the top Kodak camera was DC260 and said that it is better than all but one. That one was a camera from Olympus and cost more than a $1,000 at the time.

My advise is to look at Kodak and check out Canon - they just released a camera that was shown at MacWorld.

I am also very impressed with the DC265. I had problems connecting the DC290 to my G3, but that was connecting the camera directly. I haven't had any problems using a flash card reader.

I recomend either the DC265 or DC290, although some photographer friends of mine claim that the Nikon Coolpix 900 (or is it 950? I forget) is better, both in terms of image quality and aperture controls.

My brother just got a Fuji DS-2900 for Christmas., Totally excellent camera with very good manual exposure control, digital and optical zoom, 1800 x 1200 size images (2.3 mpix) and very easy to use.
We got a cheap USB Smart card reader (also reads compact flash and PCMCIA) and it's been a definite plus.
I'd try and have a look at one alongside the other cameras if you get the chance.

have you checked out sitessuch as Steve's Digicams and Phil Askey's for camera reviews? They both cover a wide range of cameras with in depth reviews - Steves is at http://www.steves-digicams.com/diginews.html
and Askey as http://photo.askey.net/

good luck - I have a different review of the Nikon 950 on my own home page - not quite so favourable but then I bought it :-) http://www.yp-connect.net/~macman/
- had a lok at the Sony F505?
