I think as it was developed only for the iMac there was some reason it ccan't be used with other macs. But there might be someone out there who has tried getting it going with other systems. I wouldn't mind one with a G4.

It is impossible for the iSub to work with anything other than the iMac.

Why would you want it on a G4? You'd get excellent bass coming out of the iSub, and pretty pathetic (and mono) sound coming out of the built-in speaker...

With an iSub on my G4 with a couple of external speaker it might sound sweet!
But if anyone has any reason why it can't work with my G4 I would like to know

How did you connect the iSub to your G4?
Are you just plug it into your G4?
Did you need to do any settings?

My personal guess is that the iSub would in fact worked fine with any mac that has USB capabilities (and the software required to support it). The problem is the iSub is by harman/kardon designed to work specifically with the iMac's harman/kardon built in speakers, so even if you were to get different external speakers, my guess is that it wouldn't work at all, due to the fact all sound would be cut off when you pluged the external speakers into the mac...

I have an iMac with an iSub, and also an iBook. I'll try the iSub on the iBook when I get home from work and let you know...

Cool, thanks Bobby, I was also considering getting an iBook and was wondering if the iSub would work on it also.

I tried the iSub on my iBook last night, and found that it in fact does NOT work with it. Its awkward because when I disconnect & reconnect the iSub from my iMac, the computer makes sounds as it reloads the drivers (disk access noises) for it before the iSub kicks in. The iBook does the same thing, but it never kicks in...

A Mac would have to have USB-audio capability. All UMA-1 Macs (the current lineup) have this. I am not sure about the Yikes or Yosemity. The older iMacs (233-333) do not have this capability.

For the current Macs, I presume the only thing holding it back is that Apple has supplied driver support only on the iMac. Someone needs to do a little hacking in the sound drivers, or update Wish I were... to supply gestalt IDs for newer iMacs.
