I need a RELIABLE longer-range remote control solution for Mac OS X for use in an auditorium. The presenters will stand about 55-75 feet away from the iMac in the A/V booth.

I've looked at the AirClick
http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/airclick/

the Kensington 33062
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...51#DetailSpecs

and the Keyspan
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...e&n=172282

These 3 have specified ranges of 60 feet and below, which is not something I'd like to risk. Just wondering if anyone knows a solution with a bigger range or maybe some ideas as to boost an RF signal in general or something along those lines, thanks so much.

Quite ironically, after posting this I saw the Google ad that actually caught my attention. It's for the Wireless Computing RF-100, which supposedly will work up to 100'. I've never heard of this company, however. Does anyone have any experience with them?

UPDATE: Just got off the phone with Jimmy from Wireless Computing who says they're sold out of the RF-100 until 04-18-2006 so I guess SOMEONE likes this remote.

lookup the ATI remote wonder. I have the original one and I love it. The second generation model has much better range (both are rf), but the only friend I have with that model got a defective unit. I have also seen some other remotes based off the same thing and bundled with tv tuners and stuff.

You could use a bluetooth phone as a remote. I use one quite a bit when presenting at school using my iBook, and it works well. Although the bluetooth Apple builds into its computers has a 30 ft range, there are USB bluetooth adaptors you can buy that work up to 100 ft. Just my 2c.

I'll suggest a different approach: using wires to cover some of the distance.

I see two approaches:

1) IR remote + IR repeater system. You can put IR receivers throughout the auditorium, all of which are connected by wire to an IR transmitter that's installed right by the iMac. This will work with almost all IR remotes.

2) Put the remote control's receiver closer to the presenter. Use active USB repeater cables (each is 16ft, and you can use up to 5 in series), or even better, a USB extender that uses standard ethernet cables to go up to 150ft. Then you can plug in the remote's receiver right by the stage.
