Hi all,

Is it possible to share a Hewlett Packard DeskJet 870cxi printer on a Ethernet network?

And if so, what system extensions do I need (if any)? And how do I share it?

Youy can share the 870 using localtalk and a localtalk to ethernet adapter. You could also use Apple's localtalk bridge software.
The best way is to use an HP external print server. These run under US$200 and offer 10/100 ethernet connectivity and allow you to use the printer with Mac/Win/Unix clients.
As for extensions, you'll only need the standard HP 870 extensions (use the DJ 800 Series (AT)) chooser extension.

Does the HP170 printserver work, or do you have to have the 300? I could buy one (or two!) new printers for what the HP300 printserver costs.

Thank you Gundar for your help! As I already have an HP DeskJet 870cxi printer at home, I think I will go with the second advice.

I downloaded the LocalTalk Bridge 2.1 software from Apple's site and am about to install the AppleTalk version of the DJ 800 Series chooser extension. Hope it works.

Hi all, can anyone tell me whether or not I can share a HP 952c printer over a network? All the machines are MACs and are set up in a peer to peer network. The printer is attached directly to one machine via USB cable. I would like to allow all the other machines on the network to print to this printer. Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance.
