I have a customer looking for video cards for Macintosh with DVI connections for digital displays (Cinema Displays). They are looking to add a 2nd card to each of their G4's (the built-in ATI card has the required connection) for dual digital displays.

The only PCI card I can find meeting this requirement is the 3dfx VooDoo 5000 card. I am assuming the Radeon will have the interface, but it seems this is AGP only and is a LONG time to market.

My questions: 1) is there any updated word on the release date for the VooDoo 5000 Mac card?

2) Are there any Mac compatible drivers available yet that can be used with the PC version? We might even be willing to go with Beta drivers.

3) Is there any real hardware difference between the PC and Mac versions of the card or are we just waiting on drivers?

Any help with these questions (or any other possible solutions) will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks much.

First off, there is more than the driver that is different, at least for some cards. ROM versions are different; if you want to use the unsupported voodoo 3 method, you change the rom and use the beta drivers (nevermind that, it has no dvi). Formac has some pci cards that have dvi connectors, go to www.formac.com and find out, the Proformance 3 I believe...

Thanks for the info exa. I checked out Formac and found out their digital output is for the SGI-type display, and is not compatible with the Studio/Cinema displays.

I appreciate the info on the differences on the hardware and software between the PC and Mac versions.

If anyone now has any updated info on possible release dates for the Mac card, that would be great.

Thanks again.
