Howdy,

I believe my old DVD-RAM drive in my old G4 450 died (can't get any power through it - no lights, no eject - even with a paper clip, etc), but I have some data on disc that I want to transfer. System profiler sees the drive, but I can't get it to work. The drive worked before I pulled it and replaced it with a CD burner two years ago, but when I reinstalled it, it is completely dark and unresponsive.

The DVD-RAM discs are Type I, so the acual dvds are sealed (double sided, 5.2GB). Can I crack the seals and play the discs in a normal dvd drive? Do I need to buy a new dvd-ram drive that accepts type I discs? I'm only interested in reading off the discs, not recording anything.

Thanks,

Uisce
