Okay sports fans, here's the deal. It's been a while since Apple has served us up a big ol' plate of speculation, so let's make the best of it. T minus 24 til' Apple unveils its new 'device,' so here's the thread to post your FINAL guesses. When the ground finally breaks and we all know what it is, I'll score each guess and we'll see who among us came the closest. The winner will receive our undying awe and admiration (riiiiight). Please post guesses only is this thread and only in the prescribed format below.

Remember, no chatting, arguing, complaining, snickering or slamming (there's a dozen other 'device' threads for that). And above all do not edit your posts. Edited posts will be disqualified, so think before you type. G/L

Name: Newton 2
Function: Handheld computer
Dimensions: 7x4x2?
Capacity: 6Gb HD, 64mb RAM, Flash Socket, CardBus
Cost: $750
I/O: USB/Firewire/Infrared/Airport/Audio/VGA

Running a cut-down OS X, with a pared-down version of
Aqua, more suitable to pen computing and handwriting
recognition. Airport ready with a Firewire dock.
Battery life will suck, and the press will groan about
the old Newton handwriting recognition. Everyone
will want one, and everyone will complain about the
price. I'll complain if it doesn't include Terminal
and Perl.

It isn't a Mac because it don't have a G3 or G4, it has nVidia graphic card only.
Apple took a lab tool and made it a consumer product. Microsoft stole that consumer product and made a more mediocre consumer product. Who broke the law? That's right. So support my Mac, you IS clone!

Folks say this is all to "steal the spot light from WinXp" I think it is a combo of stealling the spot light and to get the stocks higher. There was a big jump today. I think apple will announce the device to make sure stocks don't go down down down during the winxp events.

This is rational thought :

Name : Airport II
Function : same as the original, just faster
Dimensions : same as original (maybe a few cosmetic changes)
Capacity : 54 mbps +
Cost : $299 for Base Station
$99 for Airport II Card
I/O : 802.11a, 802.11b, & Bluetooth <--(I wish)

This is irrational thought (ie. my dream device) :

Name : iNewton (for lack of a better name)
Function : PDA, Cellphone (optional), iTunes, ALL RUNNING ON AN iNewton(ized) version of OS X. Handwriting recognition software with near 100% accuarcy that was to be implemented in the Newton 3000.
Dimensions : Roughly the same as the Newton 2100, with the exception of more screen (hi-rez color)
Capacity : 64/128/256mb (base/mid/high model)
Cost : $299, $349, $399 (base model does not support cellphone option)
I/O : (Airport) 802.11b, Firewire, USB, Compact Flash slot, PC Type III slot (x2)

The iNewton is all a pipe dream since Steve couldn't stand the "ScribblePad" as he liked to call it.
