Have an old OS 8 Mac and recently acquired, very cheaply a style writer II. Do not see a set up on the OS 8 for the S.W. II. How can I make it work with the OS 8? Do I need a program, no disk came with the printer. Also is it even color, needs a cartridge and a connector. Know I can get those pretty easy but should I bother? How much money are we talking about?
Any help getting the printer up will be much appreciated. Doing without a printer at this time.

Get a standard 8 pin mini-DIN printer cable and hook it up to your Mac. Use StyleWriter 1500 printer driver (installed by Mac OS 8 installer). The printer isn't color and cartridges cost around $20. It is a good B&W inkjet for printing small and simple things.

I'm concurring that the Stylewriter 1500 will work for OS 8.5.1.
Also, you can buy refill kits for @$24 which will give you 10 refills of a cartridge although you need to replace the cartridge after awhile.

Straitfan,
if Apple cartridges are not available and you do not want to use refill kits, you can use a Canon BJ cartridge BC-02 in your StyleWriter II as well.
I have done this for years.
Walter.

Straightfan, I am using the same exact setup at home. Instead of using the Stylewriter 1500 driver (which is a color Stylewriter) use the Stylewriter 1200 driver (which is exactly the same as the II, because it is B&W). That is in OS 8, in OS 9 however, Apple has removed the Stylewriter 1200 driver and they advise you to use the Stylewriter 1500 driver instead, although I have yet to get it to work. Hope this helps

The nice thing about Apple's StyleWriter drivers is that they are backward compatible. I do not know about the 4000/6000 series (since these are based on HP printers), but the 1xxx and 2xxx series drivers will still run the StyleWriter II printer.
