I am having trouble making backup copies of my playstation games (which is NOT illegal so please don't give me any crap about it). I got "PSX CopyStation" to make images of my PSX games, but I can't make the actual copy, does anyone know what progrms can do this. Adaptec Toast v 3.5 is what I tried already. And I have an internal CD-R. If anyone has any usfull info, please let me know.

I don't understand what the problem is. Psx copystation works fine. Just click on the file or files it creates or just drag them into toasts window, then burn. It works fine.
Cd copy works good too for copying playstation games.
If the problem is you can't get it to work on your playstation, you need a mod chip, because the games have copy protection and your copy doesn't.

I suggest using Astarte CD-Copy 2.0.3e for backing up your playstation games. just launch astarte, insert CD, select all, save and you have a nice file or files that can be drug onto toast and burned in DISC IMAGE mode.

You will still need a game wizard on the expansion slot or a mod chip sodered into the mother board to make it work. With the game wizard you use a spring and the swap method, but the mod chip should just fire up the burned game no prob. Also, if you have the 9000 series playstation, (which has been shipping since the summer, it won't read any disk that does not have a black bottom, they modiifed the motherboard. Do you have those?

I can make disk images with PSX CopyStation fine, the problem is when i try to use Toast to make a copy , i get the same error (-36) i got when i tried to make a disk image using DiskCopy. Any ideas now? An I do have a "game enhancer" that allows me to play imports/backups.

I think that Playstation games purposely throw in bad sectors on the disk, and Toast see's that and gets a buffer underrun...a copy protection really....

If you are using the software you mention correctly, the problem is not with the software, but your hardware. Sony uses special custom cd burners which leave a series of bad blocks on the cd. When the playstation starts up, it checks these bad blocks before allowing the boot up process to continue. Consumer cd burners will not copy these bad blocks, to my knowledge. In order to run games from a cd without the bad blocks you need what is commonly referred to as a "modchip" added to your playstation, which will bypass the bad block checking process.

YES YES I KNOW!! My problem is not playing backup games, it's burning them, I cannot get my burner to burn a backup copy of a game. It gets an error part way through. I've tried Toast 4.0 too. I know it can be done, people do it all the time.

Using toast, you should bump up the ram cache (under edit/preferences) to at least 16 megs. Then you need to burn in "Multitrack CD-ROM XA", not "Disc Image" mode. All you need to do is select the iso image as your data (after you've extracted it in PSX CopyStation or Astarte CD Copy). If there is audio that you've extracted on the cd, then you need to select "Audio Tracks" and add the audio tracks. This will allow you to make a back up.

Try burning Multi-Track CDXA (as described above) and if you still have problems trying burnin' at 2x (even if your burner does 4X or 8X) 'cause burning at higher speeds seems to produce errors and makes disc that are harder for the PSX to read.
Also, ModChip.com has a new version of there modchip that claims to work with the 900x series Playstations released this summer. Can anyone varifiy this? I was planning to get a PSX1 before PSX2 comes out.
BTW, PSXCopyStation IS Astarte's CD-Copy (Old version 1.x.x)! Someone just cracked it, changed the graphics and set it afloat on the net.

Ok I haven't read any of the posts here and I'm not going to.
What I can gather is that the methods posted above are not working.
So here goes.
You will need Toast 3.5.7 or later.
You will need Astarte CD-Copy 2.03e.
If you need CD Copy, ask me. It is not available for sale anymore so I see no other way for you to obtain it.
Make sure CD Copy is set not to adjust track gap lengths. I'll send my prefs file if you want it.
1. Open CD Copy and insert your disk. Hit Apple-A to select all then go to the File menu and go to save. Make a new folder and save everything to it.
Let it rip.
2. Open Toast. I will assume you are using Toast 4 Deluxe, as that is what I'm using.
Drag the image file to the Toast window and "Disc Image" will automatically be selected.
If the game had audio tracks, drag them there too and they will be added to to the disc image.
3. Burn.
Use good media - Verbatim DataLifePlus blue CD's are what I recommend.
You need a good modchip too.
If that doesn't work email me and we'll work out your problem
Good luck...

Finely someone mentioned Toast Deluxe normal toast 4.1.1 does not support CD-ROM-XA. You will also need astarte cd copy 2.0.3 you will find it in the link below with valid serial no. you will have to register it
http://barada.canisius.edu/~gauchc/cd_copy.html
If you look hard enough you will find toast deluxe on the net as well

I need help burning psx games on my mac. I have toast 4.1.1 oem and 4.1.2 oem. When I drag the iso file into toast, I don't get "disc image". All I have is "files and folders", "disc copy", or "audio cd". In my case I get "files and folders" when I drag it in. I think my problem is from the toast version I have.
I've been looking for toast 4 deluxe on the web forever and I can't find it. I found an updater for toast 4 dlx, but I need the deluxe version of toast to begin with in order to install it. PLEASE Help !!!

I don't understand why you need to "backup" playstation games. The only way to make a PS game unplayable, due to damage, is to
A) crack the disk in half
B) run brillo accross the surface in a circular fashion, even then, you'd be surprised.
Go find a less reputable board to post your piracy questions on.

The 9000 series can have a stealth 4 mod chip put in and it works just fine and dandy. I have one and I've done it. The motherboard has really small contacts but it is possible.

To be honest the best program I have found is Adaptec's Ez CDCreator. It could also be your burner/processor. Try copying
at the lowest write speed and copy don't use anything else. Buffer underrun's are more likely to occur while copying psx games.
You have to have at least an 833 mhz computer with at least 128 mb ram. I have a burner but my computer isn't fast enough to
handle games so If I need a backup then I go to my friend who has a dell 933 w/ 256mb. Even then it may not work also could
be the type of Cd's you are using to make the copies. the Maxell 80 min cd's I find are the best ones and are like 20 bucks for 50
at wal-mart.

Dear All,
I have read everyones posts carefully, am using a G4 and have Astarte CD Copy 2.0.3 and Toast Deluxe, but I can not back-up my PSX discs.
I am pretty sure I have succesfully extracted the PSX files onto the hard drive, but when I try to burn with Toast (CD-Rom XA mode & all the other suggestions) the disc starts to burn for about 10 seconds and then I get the following error
"Interface Error - 7918
The connection is not stable
Please check the cables & termination if SCSI"
When this happens I need to reboot the G4 as it has crashed, and the disc has been burnt into so can't be reused (I chose burn disc not burn session).
I have never had this error before, and straight after it I could succesfully burn an audio dic - so the cables are correctly connected.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Macboy101
