I currently only have one computer but am probably going to be getting another one soon. Probably a iBook or a G4. I was wondering before I got a new computer, if it was possible to share USB perpherials between computers. What I'd like to do is connect my USB hub to both computers. Is there a fairly reasonable way to do this?

You can't do that because USB won't tolerate having two hosts on the bus.

You can however use a USB switch that will connect your hub to one computer at a time.

Apple released a software piece for developers to share USB printers. It is in early development stage but will probably gradually become a usable product. I was considering using it to share my Epson EPL-5700i laser printer but haven't connected my iMac and iBook to a hub yet.

It's usually easier, cheaper (and definitely faster) to use Ethernet. There are a few USB networking products for PC's, but they aren't really worth it.

i'm just running into a similar problem, so i'm looking for suggestions too. i want to share a samsung usb laser printer that's connected to my imac over a network. The other machines on the ethernet network are a 7200 and a 7300 which don't have usb, if that matters at all. I'm considering setting up a print server, but if there are any alternate ways of doing this, i'd be glad.
