I've read all the specs, saw the pictures, and read many a disenting voice about the new Peerless drive system:
http://dailynews.yahoo.com/h/nm/2001...mega_dc_1.html

On the surface is seems like a pretty cool, simple system. However, I have yet to find one person who likes it. The usual argument is that one can buy a fairly ubiquitous external FW or USB drive for cheaper. So wtf is Iomega doing here? Surely they realize the price point and benefits of this thing are not in line with the marketplace. So to coin a phrase, "Who are the marketing geniuses who came up with this thing?"

I was about to place an order for the 20GB Peerless Bundle for about $370 inclusive shipping until I read this. Guess it is back to more research before making my decision.

In my opinion, I chose it because:
1) portability
2) 20GB of space
3) I have a Powerbook G4 with 10GB HDD

To answer the first question, major POS. To combat your opinion, here:
1) portability - 2.5 FW Hard Drives with Oxford chip (faster, cheaper, doesn't require some proprietary "dock" to work - as far as I know, the "dock" only comes with one type of connection as well. the small drives are usually bus powered and daisy chainable too. . .
2) 20 gig of space - again, FW hard drive - cheaper for 20 gigs, more capacity (up to 48 gigs)
3) Why carry around both a drive and a dock, when you only need the dock?
The Peerless system makes absolutely no sense - if there is a reason to buy it over a regulgar portable FW hard drive, please inform me . . .

It is supposed to be cheaper.
If you already own a Dock then you can buy additional "disks" for less then buying a whole new portable drive.

Still think it is stupid though.
