Hello!

I'm trying to install a PCI based ATA100 IDE controller card in this G4 tower and, well, it ain't happening...

The card is by a co. called "Promise"... they don't mention any support for macs (stupid me...) but I figure a PCI card is a PCI card is a PCI card...
(http://www.promise.com/Products/Default.htm#ADAPTERS it's the "Ultra 100")

here's the run down:
the G4 already has 2 HD on the first IDE bus, and the second one is used by the DVD-RAM drive and a built in ZIP drive. So I have to put a PCI based controller in to hook up my new Western Digital ATA100 40Gig.

I install everything and Drive Setup tells me "Cannot initiallise disk in unrecongnised drive" (or something like that)

Also, Apple Syteme Profiler doesn't "see" the PCI card...

What to do what to do?

thanks!

B.

Take it back to the store. Promise doesn't make any controller that will work in a Mac. Just because it's PCI doesn't mean anything if there is no way for the card to communicate with the computer.

VST (www.vsttech.com), Sonnet (www.sonnettech.com), and Promax (www.promax.com) all make Mac cards. Any ATA100 drive will slow down to 66 speed and not cause any problems.

I've got the Sonnet Tempo PCI card in my B&W G3 and it works like a charm. Inatallation was a snap and the drive I installed was ready for initializing and formatting in a heart beat. I highly recommend the Sonnet.
