Hello,
I have recently aquired a GeForce 4Ti 4200, and was wondering if it will even work with my Mac. I'm kind of a novice when it comes to video cards, so please excuse me if this is obvious.
Are the Ti's that ship with Macs, Mac specific cards? Or can we get Ti's from any reseller? The card I'm getting came from some online reseller. Doesn't say anything about Mac compatiblity, so I'm a little worried.
Thanks for any and all help.

My understanding is that it will not work. The chipset needs to be somewhat different for the mac AGP interface. Call nVidia to be sure.

I wouldn' call nvidea since they don't actually make any cards. The mac version of the Geforce 4 Ti is made by Apple. I have heard of some pc geforce Ti cards working with the mac without any flashing. Use the search feature to search around and maybe you can find some more helpful info.

Thanks fellas. I'll check around. I will probably be getting the card next week sometime. I'll post my results, in case anyone's interested.

Please let us know how it works out. There's a lot of us who are just dying to get one of these fine beasts, but aren't sure if they'll work. Plus the fact that there's no timetable as to when Apple will make these cards available for purchase makes things a bit frustrating right now.
I'm sure it won't hurt the system to just swap the card, boot back up and see what happens.

The box made no mention of anything Mac. So I opened it and checked out the manual. The manual actually said something to the effect of, "Will not operate on any PowerPC Macintosh." That didn't give me any hope.
So I shut down, swapped cards, booted up, and.......nothing. Monitor didn't recognize that there was even a card in the slot. I'm not sure if there's anything I can do (like flashing) that would remedy this. I've decided that there has to be a specific Mac chipset that needs to be onboard.
Oh well, at least now I'm not wondering if it will work or not. I will continue to wait until the Mac versions are available to purchase. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="frown.gif" />
