I've been looking at the Sony TRV20, MiniDV digital format, and the instruction book, of course, tells how to connect to PC's via the included PC serial cable.

The book says nothing about Macs, but there is a "DV In/Out" for connecting with "i.Link," described as "IEEE 1394 data transport." I thought that this was synonymous with Firewire, but the DV jack on the Sony isn't the same shape/size as a firewire cable, it's smaller and square in shape. What type of cable do I need to connect this to my Mac firewire port?

Thanks!

Um.....I may have found the answer (after searching this most of tonight!).

To connect to my Que Firewire CD/RW, the firewire cable is the same 6-pin plug at both ends. The Sony instruction book only showed the smallish, 4-pin "DV In/Out" plug, with no mention of any other cabling.

After my post, I found an "IEEE 1394, 4 Pin to 6 Pin Firelink" cable, on Best Buy's website, of all places! I assume this is the correct cable - can anyone confirm?

No one at Best Buy or Audio King, 2 local dealers who carry the Sony TRV20, know anything about Macs or firewire, surprisingly (they just wanted to also sell me a peecee......those weenies!) so they're of no help.

Yes, the 4 to 6 pin Firewire cable is the one you need. I have a TRV9 and it takes the same cable. Don't buy Sony's - they want a mint for it. Any generic 4 to 6 pin will do. Mine works great.

david is right, definitely get a generic 4 to 6, you will save a good bit of $$$ and won't notice the difference in quality...

If you also happen to have an iMac DV at home, you might want to check your box, because they come with the firewire cable (also, the towers do as well)
