Pricing of the NEC and Samsung is still slightly cheaper but don't look as good.

Are there any inherent differences between the two brands other than styling and obviously manufacturer?
I know Apple's website mentions that the 15"LCD offers true 16.7 million colours vs 256,000 on others. Any other technical differences are there?

Don't forget the connector that Apple uses carries the Power, USB and video signal. It also does not convert it to Analog. Apple is known for the high quality LCD display's, you can't go wrong with it.

What is the benefit of that? I'm assuming its a pure digital signal from computer to monitor? Does converting from digital to analog slow down screen redraw?

Pure digital is crisper, less chance of errors and better colours.
