Well, I finally set up my xmas present of spiffy Audiostorm FS2 speakers for my imac. They match, and are photo frames, and are pretty cool.
However, I was a little disappointed that when you plug into the sound jack on the side, the speakers don't *supplement* the imacs internal speakers. I was hoping for a full stereo effect, and since the imac is right at head level, it aims its sound pretty well. My desk surface is pretty packed, and the new externals live on a shelf above my head. Ok for music, but not so great for that "the monster is right beside you" effect I want for playing games.
Otherwise, the sound from the externals is pretty good, not as tinny as the imac, but the volume can't go up that high without being fuzzy.
Is there a way to get all 4 speakers to play at once?
Thanks.

If you have anything plugged into either the heaphone or Sound Out jacks the internal speakers are disabled. This is a function of the hardware so it would not easily be changed.

You would have to open it up and patch in another jack. Put it before the internal speakers, so that it is kind of like this:
(I had an ASCII diagram here, but it stunk. Look here: http://web.tampabay.rr.com/juddy/ima...aker_patch.gif )
Know how to solder? Good. Don't mind voiding your warranty? Even better.
Buy a stereo headphone extension cable, cut off the male end, and splice the wire in like that ^. Positive or colored to positive or colored, and negative or black to same.
Should work, but don't blame me if it doesn't. Probably would make the speaker volume distortion problem worse, too.

The internal iMac speakers are digital I believe so you are not going to have analog leads to patch onto.

Also be prepared for a drop in max volume when there are two devices there - the power output is halved.
Volume isn't though.
Hm... disregarding the digital prob (cause I don't know what to do if its like that), you could theoretically do this:
Now, the iMac has two line outs.
So attach one to the external speakers.
Now remove the internal speakers from their hookup, and splice the right connector onto their leads, and connect them externally via the other line out. Get what I mean?
Would this work?
Hm... depends on how power is supplied.
Leave power hooked up.
Lame pic I know, but you get the idea.
