Headsets refuse to function on my G5

All other headphones and microphones function fine but when I use a "headset" meaning it has two wires the microphone portion refuses to function..at all. System preferences doesn't even know it is there and everything on midi setup has not worked...

I'm assuming you're not using a USB headset.

Since that's the case, the "Line In" jack on the back of the G5 is not a "Mic In".

Line In requires an amplified/powered input.
I gotta have more cowbell.
