I picked up, along with my fancypants new Mac Cube/15" flat screen combo (don't get jealous...it's replacing my Quadra 605), one of Brother's multi-function devices. The printer works fine. The copier, of course, works fine, since that doesn't even interact with the computer. I haven't bothered with the fax yet, so whatever. But the scanner is given me no end of grief. I've installed the software, gone to the brother.com site, downloaded the TWAIN driver especially for Mac, constructed a small scanner totem out of chicken bones and scraps of felt...no dice. Every time I try to scan something, it either a) takes an insane amount of time (once) or causes my entire machine to freeze up (every other time). Any advice?

Also, a side question, since my cube didn't come with a manual. If the whole dang machine freezes up - as in can't move the cursor and hitting opt-com-esc doesn't do anything - is there any way to restart the cube without just unplugging the darn thing? I know that can't be good for it...

Hi FA,
I can't help you with the Brother MFC issue , but can suggest with the cube to press the power button for 5-10 secs, and that should force it to reboot...
good luck,
dave
