I've had a Que QPS CD-RW with my G4 Desktop and I've been satisfied, but I've sold my computer and have gotten a Powerbook G4.

I'm looking for a compact CD-RW drive with a high rewrite speed. If possible one that can be powered by FireWire alone with an adapter being optional.

Any recommendations? What's out there and what's reliable? $$$ is not an issue either

Get a Yamaha. You will be glad you did.

I'm not too sure of the other brands out there, but I have a VST USB CD burner... it is both a 4 speed recorder and rewriteable... it runs off of a rechargable battery and/or AC adapter (which isn't a huge brick). I would like to move up to their new Firewire CD-R/RW... it can be bus powered, or use an adapter... I believe it is 4x4x20... I'm not too sure there are many portable burners out there that might meet your speed requirements... on the desktop front I have a Sony Spressa firewire 10 speed which is pretty awesome... i use it at home for all of the bigger stuff I need to burn and use my VST for when I am on the road, at the office, etc... VST Technologies is http://www.vsttech.com
regards,
dave
I believe Sony also has a portable (similar in form factor to their Discman portable audio players...)

I forgot to add that I believe the mechanism inside my VST CD burner is a Teac mechanism (although I could be wrong)...
