I have an indigo ibook, with only 1 usb port of course.

I need to hook it up to my usb printer, my usb optical mouse, and my usb cdrw at once.

What I ideally want is a usb hub that will be self powered from my system bus without requiring an additional power supply.

Is this possible/normal. Ive read up on all of the major usb hubs and none of them really specify waht theya re capable of. Most come with an optional power supply, or though some are bus powered.

Your thoughts would be appreciated - here are some of the choices Ive been looking at:

Macally USB iHubJr

Belkin USB 4 port (very nice looking hub)

Im not limiting myseld to these suggestions. In fact any suggestions you might have would be very helpful.

Cheers

i have a belkin 4 port pocket hub (it's designed for the ibook, but i have it on my imac) it's smaller and does not take up so much space and is cheaper than the regular 4 port hub, and it comes with a power supply. i'm using it for my printer (epson 777i) and it works fine without a power supply. the instructions advise you to use the power supply when hooking up a new peripheral and to try the peripheral with the power supply and then without to see if the peripheral will work without the power supply. the only thing that you mentioned is the cdrw. from everything i've read in these forums, it is much better to plug the cdrw directly into the computer. i havent heard of much success when using a cdrw thru a hub. hope this helps.

i use my usb cdrw all te time though a usb hub, but i wouldnt do that if with an unpowered hub, especially if you have a mouse slowing down your connection.

I am assuming that you are not dragging your printer and burner with you everywhere you go (but i guess some of the new burners are small enough to do so) and if you are just leaving your burner and your printer on your desk, i would say just get a powered hub... usb is not the most friendly interface ever created, just one of the most convienent.
