Hi All,

Mom's StyleWriter 4500 is dead. She has a PowerMac 7500. I'm looking for a new ink jet printer that has a Serial port but can't find any or not looking in the correct places. The only one I find are USB or Centronics parallel connections.

My question is there a serial printer still made OR Is there a Centronics parallel to Serial adapter?

TIA, Keith!

The Epson 740 and 900 were the last of the serial printers on the market. Your best bet is to find a used/refurb 740. If not, don't get a parallel to USB adapter. For the same or less money, get a USB PCI card to add ports to that machine. You'll now be able to use any USB peripheral, although an OS upgrade might be necessary for the card/peripheral.

Yeah, get a 740.
Its cool cause I've got the G4 to mine via USB, the wintel via parallel, and the 5500 via serial.
It rocks.
It has three ports, I have 3 comps hooked up to it, and I never have to unplug any of them.
Great machine.

Check out Epson's website... at their on-line store, they sell a lot of their older printers (I specifically remember seeing them selling the 740, 800, 850, and 900, all of which are serial)... http://www.epson.com .
